DUSTEX SPRAY-ON APPLICATION GUIDELINES

DUSTEX is an environmentally friendly natural polymer derived from the lignin in wood. When mixed with water, it can be sprayed onto gravel roads to control dust. DUSTEX works best in soil blends of sand (70%) to clay (30%) for optimum dust suppression.

Continued use of “Dustex” improves crop quality & yields, reduces loss of fines, corrugations & potholes and grading frequencies.
Please keep DUSTEX dry by storing under roof cover.

Surface treatments (Spray-on application):

  1. Road structure should be a reasonably good quality base with wearing coarse layer.
  2. Ensure that the road surface is firm, free of excess loose material and has sufficient camber to ensure proper drainage.
  3. Ripping the surface down to 50 to 100 mm will greatly assist DUSTEX penetration.
  4. Lightly water the road (0.5 ℓ/m2) to assist DUSTEX penetration.
  5. First fill water tanker with one third water then slowly pour the dry DUSTEX powder into the tanker.
  6. At the same time, continue filling the water tanker with water.
  7. Ensure that paper or plastic from the packaging does not get into the water tanker as these will block pipes and sprays.
  8. Suggested maximum dosage is a 15% solution, 6 x 25 kg bags DUSTEX per 1000ℓ water = 150 g/m2 per 1000 m2. (Repeat as per point 10 below).
  9. DUSTEX will dilute quicker if a recirculation pump is turned on during the mixing process.
  10. For gravel roads and open areas, DUSTEX should be continuously applied as a 15,0 % solution as part of the normal watering programme until the required DUSTEX level of 1,0 to 2,0 kg/m2 is achieved for optimum dust suppression.
  11. Avoid run-off and pooling. Any DUSTEX run-off can be bladed back, wetted and reused.
  12. The application rate to achieve the desired level of dust control will vary depending on rainfall, climate, traffic and soil conditions.
  13. Rejuvenation intervals with DUSTEX product between spray cycles will decrease as the DUSTEX concentration builds up and takes effect.
  14. Periodic light watering with plain water (0.5 ℓ/m2) between product applications will assist binding of DUSTEX and road material. Intervals between watering will vary as with point 12 above.
  15. For best results, apply DUSTEX after rain when the soil is moist.

GUIDELINES FOR LONG-TERM DUST CONTROL USING DUSTEX

YEAR 1: Initial application of 1,0 kg/m2 DUSTEX with monthly rejuvenation of 0,150 g/m2.

YEAR 2: Rejuvenation of 0,75 kg/m2 DUSTEX with twice monthly rejuvenation of 0,150 kg/m2

YEAR 3: Rejuvenation of 0,5 kg/m2 DUSTEX with rejuvenation of 0,150 kg/m2 every third month.

These guidelines are seasonal and may vary as described in point 12 above.
